Texas hires Miss. State's Diaz as defensive co-ordinator

From The Houston Chronicle.com

AUSTIN — On multiple occasions during the worst season of his 13-year tenure at Texas, Mack Brown called his team entitled. Even more often, outsiders looked at the Longhorns’ talent and their losses and labeled them underachievers.
Wednesday, Brown gave control of his defense to a man who in his chosen field is unlikely to ever be accused of either trait.

Mississippi State’s Manny Diaz, who never played a down of college football and who began his professional career as a lowly production assistant at ESPN, has been hired as UT’s new defensive coordinator, the school announced Wednesday.
After a decade of toiling in relative obscurity in places like North Carolina State and Middle Tennessee, Diaz suddenly holds one of the highest-profile jobs in his sport.

“It was not something I sought out,” Diaz said in a statement released by UT. “It’s an unbelievable opportunity. ... The challenge of getting Texas back where it’s been for so long and back where it belongs among the nation’s elite is something I’m really looking forward to.”"
