"Wal-Marr" announces proposed 4th store to open along North Loop 20

No mention on the number of possible jobs or average starting wage
Wal-Mart, or "Wal-Marr" as our Mexican neighbors call it, has announced plans to open a 4th store in Laredo. According to Pro8news, the latest location will be at International Blvd. and Loop 20. Chances are that the new Super Store and all the traffic it will bring, will be operating way before the State/County has had a chance to build those much-needed overpasses. Currently, an overbundance of lights on Loop 20 has prevented it from being the kind of smooth-flowing thoroughfare that was once envisioned.

Wal-Mart's confidence in laredo speaks volumes of the changing economic landscape. Increasingly, it appears that various indicators continue to point towards a consistently strentghening economy. Surprisingly, no mention was made of the number of jobs that the new Wal Mart will bring to the Gateway City. I'm hoping that they don't plan to close to original Wal-Mart as they open this newest one. Just look at how busy the 3 Walmarts we have are. Laredo can definitely support another one. You can see the proof for yourself in the long lines that form at the checkout stands - even at midnight.

  1. I doubt they would ever close the one on I-35, isn't it still the #1 Walmart (in sales) in the U.S.?

  2. Is the Quasi-Loop Laredo's new "Main Street?" Why does everything have to be built on the "Loop?"

  3. I guess Laredo Main Street's jurisdiction is bigger than we thought.

  4. You ask why everything has to be built on the loop? Easy. Land is cheap, and although the loop traffic is not great, its a hell of a lot better than anywhere else in the city.
