Fox News not allowed in Canada........ because it lies!

From the Huffington Post- By Robert F. Kennedy Jr

Fox News will not be moving into Canada after all! The reason: Canada regulators announced last week they would reject efforts by Canada's right wing Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, to repeal a law the forbids lying on broadcast news.

Canada's Radio Act requires that "a licenser may not broadcast....any false or misleading news." The provision has kept Fox News and right wing talk radio out of Canada and helped make Canada a model for liberal democracy and freedom. As a result of that law, Canadians enjoy high quality news coverage including the kind of foreign affairs and investigative journalism that flourished in this country before Ronald Reagan abolished the "Fairness Doctrine" in 1987. Political dialogue in Canada is marked by civility, modesty, honesty, collegiality, and idealism that have pretty much disappeared on the U.S. airwaves.

  1. Good idea Canada....let the government decide what you can listen to! Thank God for the U.S. Constitution.

  2. Another note, I was wrong when I said let the government decide. The council that decides who can broadcast is made up of Canadian broadcasters. How likely is it that they do not want the competition that Fox News would bring? Look at CNN and MSNBC vs. Fox News in ratings. No contest.

  3. People will believe what they want to . Fox news lies and if you watch Fox you are a victim of the biggest scam in the history of America . Its been proven !!!!! The most often told lie in 2010 was " The Obama health care plan is a government take over of health care " a statement that has zero truth in it !! If you think Fox tells the truth , I have Iraq's "weapons of mass DISTRACTION " stored in my barn . No need to Authenticate this information ,just send me 2 TRILLION U.S. tax payer dollars and I will share the location with you .

  4. You seriously don't judge truth by ratings, do you? Popularity does not equal quality. I'm pretty sure the National Enquirer outsells the Wall Street Journal

  5. Exactly, and in the most coveted demographic groups, Fox is losing ground anyway. So much for Faux.

  6. Lets see... the choice is to have the "gumint" decide your news (the elected representatives of the people), or Rupert Murdoch, a multi-billionaire, whose agenda is to create a climate which will benefit the billionaires and their mega-corporations, through any means necessary (lying) to get people to support their agenda. I know that Rupert is not concerned with my interests. The government simply is stating that news outlets can not lie when reporting news. The choice is clear to any person with a brain.

  7. Fox would be allowed in - they just can't call it News - when it clearly has false information on numerous accounts and is heavily opinionated to project one point of view only. CNN is in Canada so worries over competition as some suggested is not the case.

  8. They should change their name to Fox Opinion Network or The FOX Brainwashing System-something to that effect.
